How to get to Vieques and Culebra
Puerto Rico is an archipelago of islands and cays. The big island, Puerto Rico, and two populated ones, which are Vieques and Culebra, two uninhabited ones, Mona and Desecheo. They include hundreds of keys and islets that make up our nation.
Most of the island and cays are distributed between the East and the Southwest of the island. Its crystal clear waters receive countless local and foreign visitors attracted by its coral reefs, its thalasia garden meadows, marine life and unique landscapes formed by the mixture of colors that its inhabitants present in unique ways in each of its spaces. .
Due to this, the Fajardo area attracts many of our sailors due to its proximity to a chain of keys that connects Fajardo with Culebra, known as the Arrecife de Cordilllera Nature Reserve. In it you can enjoy a day at the beach away from the hustle and bustle, or snorkel in its waters among fish, manta rays, or perhaps turtles, it all depends on what is you’re swimming through the neighborhood at that time.
The islands municipalities of Vieques and Culebra are located to the East of Fajardo and Ceiba, naturally these populations have maintained a connection since to reach the big island for decades the people of Viequenses and Culebrans transited through the port of Fajardo. A few years ago, the boat terminal moved to Ceiba. Considering that the widest and deepest port that said town has available could be used.
From it, Vieques can be reached in approximately 45 minutes and Culebra in an hour and a half. The cost per person varies by island, for Vieques $2.00 per trip and for Culebra $2.25 per trip. Children under 12 years old have a cost of $1.00 per trip.
